How this estimate works
Cost = area × installed price per square foot for your surface (2026 Canadian averages: gravel ≈ $1–4, asphalt ≈ $3.50–8.50, broom-finish concrete ≈ $10–17, stamped ≈ $15–22), plus base preparation if you chose new construction or soft ground. The result is a ±15% range. Gravel includes compacted granular; asphalt and concrete assume standard 2–4" surface over a prepared base. Permeable options (PICP ≈ $15–$30/sq ft installed; plastic grid ≈ $5–$12) let water soak through instead of running off — they need a deeper open-graded clear-stone base and periodic vacuum-sweeping to keep draining; see Roof & Lot Drainage for where that water goes and when a permit applies.
