About BuildPlanner

Our Mission

BuildPlanner.ca exists to give Canadian homeowners, contractors, developers, and DIY builders practical tools to plan and budget construction projects with confidence. Pricing a garage, ordering gravel, or sizing up a raw lot shouldn't require guesswork — or a dozen phone calls just to get a ballpark.

How Our Calculators Work

Every cost calculator uses researched Canadian-average prices as defaults — and every price is editable. Material and labour costs vary widely across the country, so we'd rather hand you the math with honest defaults than pretend one number fits Victoria and St. John's alike. Adjust the unit prices to match local quotes and the estimate becomes yours.

Our estimates are planning tools, not quotes. We show ranges, not false precision, and we tell you when a result needs professional confirmation.

Who's Behind This

BuildPlanner.ca is built by a land development engineering professional with hands-on experience in construction costing, municipal servicing, drainage, and site development across Canadian projects — the person who has reviewed the soil reports, priced the gravel, sized the culverts, and watched budgets meet reality on real sites.

That background shapes how every tool here works: quantities calculated the way estimators actually calculate them, honest ranges instead of false precision, and a deal-breakers-first approach to decisions — because the most expensive problems are the ones found after closing, not before. We're not affiliated with any contractor, supplier, or manufacturer, and our calculators don't favour anyone's products.
